Compacting dilemma

My first compacting dilemma, and I need your help.

Each year we buy a zoo pass for my brother's family for Christmas. Since our nieces are young (2,3 & 5) we also get something small for them - last year it was a stocking filled with small things like coloring books & crayons, a stuffed animal and an ornament.

I don't know what to give them this year. They have so many toys that I'm sure my brother would kill me if I just went to the thrift store and picked up another toy. I am not crafty, so I can't knit or crochet them something.

We will be exchanging gifts when they come to visit in a little less than two weeks. Help!

Hmmm... I have a 3 yo and can tell you we don't need any more crayons or coloring books. But PLAY DOUGH is a HUGE hit here right now. I've made it before and it is really easy to do. You can buy the neon food coloring (or use what you have) and the colors look great.

Or how about a dress up box. Last year I got a bunch of used dress up things and my daughter loved it.

Books are always great (although I know, a purchase) Do they watch videos? My library always has used videos for sale for like $1. Would your brother mind 2nd hand items? I'm kind of trying to do no-stuff gifts too but will probably be making an exception when it's not appropriate.

I was actually thinking of play dough! I have a bunch of paste food coloring in some pretty cool colors.

I'm sure my brother will kill me, but I have all of those years of loud, messy toys to pay him back for. lol

I forgot the rest of the post. Sheesh.

They wouldn't mind used at all. They shop thrift stores and yard sales. In fact, my SIL's mom would out Amy D to shame at a head to head frugal competition. LOL

We did a dress up box for the 3 YO's birthday last year, and for her 1st birthday I did a "book of the month" thing. Each month we sent books that had been picked up at various places.

Remember the playdoh and cookie cutters at Coop? I have that awesome, EASY recipe that uses Kool-Aid so it even smells good to Mom and Dad. Cookie cutters can be what you don't want anymore or from the thrift store. (Or is buying Kool-Aid off limits?) Let me know if you need the recipe.

Ohhhhh! I forgot about how much fun the kids had! I would love the recipe. Kool-aid is ok, because it is a "food" item. (I know, not in my house either. lol)

I will keep my eyes open for cookie cutters at the thrift stores.

I knew you guys would figure this out!
